The work of Ben J. Riepe is characterized by a strong and provocative poetic, between drama and irony that is interviewing beauty with critical statements. The ensemble surrounding the Düsseldorf based choreographer Ben J. Riepe was founded in 2004 and today exists of several permanent dancers and project wise collaborators from the fields of dance, music/composition and costume as well as installation and visual arts.
Since 2009 Ben J. Riepe is receiving the support „Spitzenförderung Tanz“ and one year later started to run an own studio space in Düsseldorf, where current productions are rehearsed, training takes place and artistic research is represented.
Choreography becomes more than a beautiful arrangement of moving bodies on stage. The company is pushing those boundaries of contemporary dance with every new work.
The Ben J. Riepe Kompanie created various stage choreographies, performances, installations, film- and video work, which have been successfully shown internationally. In the last years the company toured in Poland, India, Bangladesh, the Netherlands and France and was awarded with numerous prices. Since 2013 Ben J. Riepe is „Affiliated Artist“ at PACT Zollverein.
